India has been confirmed to host the Asia Cup 2025 as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) floated an Invitation for Expression of Interest (IEOI) for the sponsorship rights document on Saturday.
The IEOI is an invitation to the interested entities to submit their bid for the ACC Sponsorship for the years 2024 to 2027. The ACCI has awarded the Aisa Cup 2027 hosting to Bangladesh.
Asia Cup 2023 was hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka together that was a 50-over format. Asia Cup 2025 will be a T-20 format.
IEOI elaborates that it is a temporary document that can be changed at the direction of the ACC without any fallout. The tournament’s schedule, timing, and locations can be changed if deemed necessary by ACCI.
The ACC has not finalized the schedule for the upcoming Asia Cup yet. However, it is expected that Six teams will play in the tournament. The five obvious teams are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. The sixth team will have to go through a qualifying round expected to be comprised of 13 matches.
According to sources privy to ACC, the tournament was expected to be held in the Monsoon season due to the tight schedule of international teams but after deliberation, it was decided that the tournament would be played after the monsoon season ends in India.
The Asia Cup 2027 hosted in Bangladesh will be a return to a 50-over format. The top Five Asian teams will play in the tournament just like the 2025 edition with the sixth team to be included after a qualification round.
The Women’s Asia Cup will be held in 2026 and is going to be a T-20 format. The recently concluded Women’s Asia Cup hosted by Sri Lanka was won by Sri Lanka defeating India in the final. It was Sri Lanka’s maiden Aisa Cup title.
