Former English right-handed batter and current Head Coach of the Afghanistan Cricket team, Jonathan Trott, assumes a coaching role in SA20 (Betway).
The Pretoria Capitals, a team in the SA20, announced a few days earlier that the franchise will not extend the contract with head coach Graham Ford. And Ford will be replaced by Trott as the head coach.
Ford led the Capitals to the playoffs in the tournament’s first edition in 2023. However, the second edition of the SA20 proved difficult for the Capitals. The team managed to win only 3 out of 10 matches in the group stage and finished five out of the six teams.
Some of the IPL (Indian Premier League) franchises are owning teams in SA20. The JSW group that owns the Delhi Capitals (DC) also owns Pretoria Capitals. Recently, DC announced that the team is parting ways with Ricky Ponting- former head coach of DC.
DC is yet to announce the head coach of the team. It is in the air that Trott might be a potential candidate for the head coach. DC had announced Gulbadin Naib as a replacement player in IPL 2024. Gulbadin plays in the Afghanistan team coached by Trott.
There is news that Trott might likely replace Mathew Mott as head coach of England’s White ball team. There appears to be a competition between Andrew Flintoff and Jonathon Trott for the slot of head coach. But Flintoff is likely to prevail.
