The Guyana Amazon Warriors remain at the top of the table in the Carribean Premier League (CPL) 2024 standings despite losing to Trinbago Knight Riders in the last match of the league stage. With 14 points and a net run rate of 0.79, the Warriors edge past Saint Lucia Kings and Knight Riders on net run rate.
Nicholas Poran’s Ton Lead Knight To Victory
Poran was the star of the show with a match-winning century. He scored a blazing 101 off 59 balls. His innings included 9 fours and 8 sixes that propelled the Riders to above par total of 211/5 in 20 overs.
Although Jason Roy also played a free-flowing inning of 34 off 24 balls, Poran set the tone for the match.
Flying Start For The Riders
After winning the toss, the Knight Riders choose to bat first. Shaqkere Parris went back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers in the first over of the match.
Pooran came in to join Roy, the pair gave stability to the innings with a formidable partnership of 152 runs. Pooran went berserque against Dwaine Pretorious smashing him to all parts of the park racing to a 22-ball fifty.

After the end of the powerplay, the knight riders had scored 75 runs with Pooran contributing 51 of them. By halfway of the innings, the score was 109/1. Pooran was still going long and strong.
Tough Chase For Guyana Amazon Warriors
It was not easy for the Guayan Amazon to chase the target but they got off to a blazing start courtesy of Rahman Ullah Gubraz’s quick-fire 36. Gurbaz’s opening partner kelvon Anderson departed earlier but he kept the scoreboard moving.
The Amazon lost their way after a solid powerplay scoring 63/1. The fall of quick wickets saw them 76/6 after 10 overs. Akel Hossain picked up the key wicket of Shai Hope who scored 28 runs, after which the Amazon couldn’t recover.
Stand Out Bowlers For The Knight Riders
Waqar Salamkhel and Terrance Hinds were the chief architects of the Knight Riders bowling display. Both the bowlers picked up three wickets. Salamkhel picked up Gurbaz and Hetmyer in the same over. Hinds replicated Salamkhel by picking up the wickets of Keemo paul and Romario shepherd.
There was an in-vain partnership from Gudakesh Motie (26) and Imran Tahir (20) for the 9th wicket but it was too little too late. Nathan Edwards picked up the last two wickets of the innings with kinghts securing 74 runs win.
The Knight Riders In Playoff Despite Victory
Although the Knight Riders won against the Amazon but finished 3rd on the points stable. They will face Barbados Royals in the eliminator of the Playoff. The Guyana Warrios have a better net run rate which is why they sail directly to the Qualifier 1.
