Formidable West Indies Vs Spirited Papua New Guinea
In match 2, Group C, of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, West Indies will take on the challenge of Papua Guinea on 2nd June 2024 at Guyana Providence Stadium. The West Indies have entered the World Cup on the back of some incredible performances against a strong South African side beating them 3-0 at their home.
West indies squad for the tournament is: Rovman Powell (c), Alzarri Joseph, Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd (Courtesy ICC)
West Indies have always been a strong T20 side. The two-time World T20 champions’ side is a mix of experience and exuberance. Unluckily, former skipper Jason Holder was left out of the side due to injury, replaced by the pacer Obed McCoy.
Group C includes New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda. Apart from New Zealand and West Indies, the other team might look weak on the paper but it’s not going to be easy for a strong team to have easy wins.
Afghanistan has one of the best spin attacks in the world with some very good performances in the recent past like beating Pakistan at home in the T20i series.
Papua New Guinea is a spirited team. They have shown grit and resilience. The team might emerge as a black horse as the tournament progresses.
An experienced team has been announced by Papua New Guinea for the contest led by skipper Assadollah Vala. The team includes:
Assadollah Vala (c), Alei Nao, Chad Soper, CJ Amini, Hila Vare, Hiri Hiri, Jack Gardner, John Kariko, Kabua Vagi Morea, Kipling Doriga, Lega Siaka, Norman Vanua, Sema Kamea, Sese Bau, Tony Ura (Courtesy ICC)
While the West Indies will enjoy the advantage of the home crow and familiar player conditions, Papua New Guinea will not let the Windies win easily. We will have an intriguing contest.
