Muhammad Rizwan- Contender For ODI Captaincy

cricketbuzztoday: Geo TV, a media house in Pakistan, aired that Muhammad Rizwan is a strong contender for ODI captain of the Pakistan cricket team. Babar Azam’s resignation has created a stir in the cricket fraternity. It is rumoured that Muhammad Rizwan is the strongest contender for the slot of Captaincy. Sources say that the relevant authorities have been asked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to hold consultations with the right-handed wicketkeeper batter.

Babar Steps Down Willingly

Sources within the PCB confirmed that Babar Azam hasn’t been forced to resign but resigned willingly. The new coach of the ODI team, Garry Kirsten, wanted Babar to be at the top.

The sources said Gary wanted a new Captain for the T20 format as part of the future plan to be effected in July.

Gary always wanted Babar to keep captaining the side. He visited Pakistan in July this year to share a report on the T20 World Cup performance of the team. Afterward, he also met Babar to discuss captaincy matters. Babar had the complete support of the coach persuading him to continue even during the connection camp.

Rizwan Strongest Contender For Captaincy

Sources report that Muhammad Rizwan is the strongest contender for captaincy after the resignation of Babar Azam. Rizwan has a formidable track record as a captain in the PSL. Under his captaincy, the Multan Sultans have reached 3 consecutive Finals of the PSL. He was also captain of the Wolves in the recently concluded Champions One Day Cup.
