The Day Rohit Sharma Became Second Fastest Player to 10000 ODI Runs

Rohit Sharma also known as the ‘HITMAN’ is one of the most accomplished cricketers in the world. On this day last year, Rohit Sharma became the second-fastest Player to reach 10000 runs in ODI cricket.  Although his rise in Test cricket came later in his career, the Indian captain has solidified his place in the longest format. However, it’s in One Day Internationals (ODIs) where Rohit has truly demonstrated his excellence. Despite making his ODI debut in 2007, it took him six years to secure a permanent spot in the team. Since 2013, Rohit has been among the finest ODI batters, amassing an impressive 31 centuries.

For someone once considered a slow starter in ODIs, Rohit reached a major milestone exactly a year ago, becoming the second-fastest player to score 10,000 ODI runs. He achieved this feat during the Asia Cup against Sri Lanka. His teammate, Virat Kohli, holds the record for being the fastest to 10,000 ODI runs.

Rohit’s Dominance Against Sri Lanka

In the match against Sri Lanka, India batted first, and Rohit provided a brisk start to team India. The Indian skipper was in top gear from the go, aggressively attacking the Sri Lankan bowlers and scoring a quickfire 53 off 48 balls. India was eying a high total, but mystery spinner Dunith Wellalage slowed the runs flow dismissing Rohit when he was all set to score big.

Wellalage Picks Up Crucial Wickets

Wellalage didn’t stop there, taking crucial wickets, including those of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul, effectively stalling India’s progress. India was eventually bowled out for a modest 213, with Wellalage ending with exceptional figures of 5/40 in 10 overs.

In response, Sri Lanka’s wickets fell like Autumn’s leaves, and they were bundled out for just 172 runs. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler for India, picking up 4 wickets for 43 runs. India secured a comfortable win against the Sri Lankan Tigers.

Rohit Prepares for Bangladesh Series

Rohit is a phenomenal leader. He is considered the second-best Indian captain after MS Dhoni.  Under Rohit’s captaincy, India won the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, after which Rohit announced his retirement from T20 internationals along with the batting maestro Virat Kohli.

After T20 World Cup Rohit took a rest from Cricket and went on vacation with his family. His last ODI series was against Sri Lanka. He scored consecutive half-centuries. Despite his contributions, India lost the series.

After a short break, Rohit is practicing hard, especially on his fitness for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

India will face Bangladesh in two Test matches. Rohit is confident about a clean sweep series win against the Windies, which would significantly boost their standing in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.

As Rohit continues to break records and guide India, his legacy as one of the game’s greats continues to grow, particularly in ODIs where he has set higher standards.
